Bible Institute Puebla, MEX

This last Tuesday we started our 7th year of our Bible Institute, and we are very excited about it. We have 7 different classes, all thought by different people, most of them Pastor of the area. We have 12 students, and we are praying that God will use them all for His honor and Glory.

We also sent nine students in the Bible Institute in San Luis Potosi, with Pastor Luis Ramos, four of those students are from our mission church. In total we have 21 people preparing for the work of the Lord, praise God!

Soul Winning

Our soulwinning group

Our soulwinning group

This last Saturday my wife and I were able to speak with four different people about salvation during our soulwinning time with the church. Praise the Lord, a young man with his brother listened to the Gospel, but only one of them accepted Christ as his Saviour. His name is Javier. The other  three people, listened a clear plan of salvaion, and I just pray and hope that they will come to Jesus soon rather than later. I praise the Lord that He has allowed me to lead 34 people for Him this year.

Baptisms

ClaudiaJulieta

Last week God allowed me to baptize Claudia and Julieta. Claudia got saved long time ago as a teenager in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, at the church Bro. Tom Sloan used to pastor. She got away from the Lord, but God brought her back and now she is growing in His grace. Claudia enrolled in the Bible Institute and her husband is thinking about enrolling too. Both Claudia and her husband have a PHD in math. Pray for her and for her husband Raul.

On the other hand, Julieta was born in a Christian home. Her mom and dad are faithful members of our church. Her dad is enrolling in the Bible Institute this week and he wants to serve God reaching the Jews, maybe in South America. His name is Edgar Jara. Pray for him and his family, as they are struggling financially.

Joel Molina

Joel Molina

Joel Molina

Joel Molina arrived in our church about two and a half years ago, discouraged and looking for a church. He had already graduated from a good Bible Institute, but not doing much for God. Joel made things right, with a good attitude and a servants heart. Joel went on to work in the mountains of Puebla for one whole year under a good church. Then, at the beginning of this year he met Isabel, and now they are getting married this October. Also, a church in the mountains of Guerrero asked him to be their Pastor and he accepted. It’s a small church in a very rural, poor, small town in the mountains. Joel is going by faith to pastor this church. There is no cellphone reception there, no banks and pretty much, not a lot about anything. If you or your church you like to help Joel, he will very much appreciate that. The only financial support that Joel has right now comes from our church. I believe Joel will do great things for God in that area. Please pray for him.

Thank you for your support and prayer!

This morning was a special morning. I had the privilege to baptize our own daughter Sarah. Today was also a special Sunday because we celebrated Easter Sunday — we celebrated the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We also baptized 4 other people of our church. What a blessing is to see our church growing in grace and in numbers. We had 99 adults during our Sunday morning preaching service (not counting the children’s church nor the nursery). Three of them were first time visitors and we had one person accepting Jesus as his personal Savior.

Youth Conference in Cuernavaca, Morelos

From Monday to Wednesday we took our youth group to a Youth Conference in Cuernavaca to Iglesia Bautista Monte Abarim, whose Pastor is Brother Alejandro Ramirez. We had 27 young people from our church plus another 20 from Brother’s Tim Aguiar’s church from East Puebla. A total of 50 attended the conference just from Puebla — What a blessing! — 10 years ago I only took one young man to a youth camp and now there are more young people saved and willing to serve God!

When I went to Cuernavaca to pick up our young people, Bro. Tim Aguiar told me that his mini-bus broke down. The bought a mini-bus few months ago and they helped us take some of our young people. Pastor Alejandro Ramirez let us use one of his fifteen passenger vans to bring our young people back to Puebla. So… I brought 25, and Bro. Tim brought another 25! Praise the Lord we were not stopped and everything went OK! Here is a picture of the ones I brought (missing three on the picture.)

Couples Retreat in Toluca, Estado de Mexico

This last Thursday through Saturday my wife and I had the opportunity to attend the annual couples retreat that Bro. Victor Castillo organizes in Toluca. Bro. S. E. thought during the three days. My wife and I came back to Puebla blessed by the preaching of the Word and the fellowship.

Bro. Manuel Garcia

Today we had Bro. Manuel Garcia, missionary to “maybe Puebla” preach in our church. Bro. Garcia has been a missionary in Guaymas, Sonora for the last 7 years. God has put in his heart to visit the south part of the country of Mexico and see where He would lead him to start another church. We are praying for Puebla for more missionaries. Puebla, I believe, has the least amount of missionaries per capita in the country of Mexico. At the moment we have 3 IFB churches in the city. We surely would love for Bro. Garcia to come to Puebla, but we will wait to see what God has for him. If you don’t know were to go in Mexico as a missionary, please playfully consider the city of Puebla as an option. Please come and help us!

This morning, as I was outside our church, dismissing people, a man came up to me, and told me: “I am disappointed of my church. I need to know the truth. I need help. My mother died few years ago, and I have tried to commit suicide. I have tried so many times to kill myself. And my church, the Catholic church has not been able to help me at all.”

Javier after he got saved!

Javier after he got saved in front of our church!

I just finished preaching about reaching the lost. And the other day I preached about the man at the gate of the church that was asking for alms, and Peter and John gave him, not money, but salvation — and now this man, is right outside our church asking for help. So, I preached unto him Jesus! and Javier got saved!

Today we had and incredible church service. We had a full house. We had 6 first time visitor in the morning and 3 first time visitors tonight. We also had two saved in the morning and one young man saved at night.

Last week we had Juan Jose getting baptized. He and his wife have been struggling financially and spiritually. His wife has even told me of things happening in their house — as in demonic things, but since the started to come to our church, everything is now peaceful once again.

Juan-jose-getting-baaptized

Baptizing Juan Jose in our Church

Last week on Saturday, as we soulwinning with our church, God allowed me and my wife to lead two people to Jesus. One of them is Jose Ramon Perez, and the other man is Aniceto Leon Perez. Aniceto had a tract from our church and was reading it while he was sitting down in the street. I asked him if he understood the tract and if he needed help. He accepted my help. I explained the tract and with the Bible I showed him how he could have eternal life. Praise the Lord he got saved!

Please pray for our church this coming week. We are holding our Annual Leadership Conference here in Puebla. We have invited several pastors to come and preach during our conference. They are: Pastor Kevin Wynne, Pastor Luis Ramos, Pastor Luis Parada, Pastor Ezequiel Salazar and Pastor Oscar Galvan. They are all being used by God and I know they are going to be a tremendous blessing for our church and the more that 30 pastors that are coming to hear them preach. We are expecting to have more than 400 people during the conference. Thank you and God bless you!

First of all, let me say that we have been so blessed to be serving our Lord here in Mexico. We are very thankful for all of His blessings and all the things that he allowed us to do in His service. We pray that God will help us do more this 2015, and we pray that God will do more in each one of you as well. Happy New Year!

Baptisms of Eduardo and Cristian

We started the year right, with people saved in our church and two baptisms! One of them, Eduardo, has been coming to our church for quite a while. A week before getting baptized, he told me that he did not remember if he had been baptized or not, so he asked his family, if they new by chance if they new if he got baptized as a little boy. They said no. So Eduardo made things right and got baptized.

We need to move

Recently, the City of Puebla, added a new public transportation service called “metrobus”. This bus is good for the people, since it will help them get around the city faster and easier. The problem with this metrobus is that it has already affected our parking area in front of our church. There is no place for cars to park as they used to in front of our church. This problem, and the fact that we don’t fit in our church and our vision to grow, leaves us with the need to move to a different place. Please help us to pray so that this year we can find a piece of land at least twice as big as our current property. Thank you!

Bible Institute

We start our spring semester of our Bible Institute this coming Tuesday. We have eight teachers ready to teach! Among them four Pastors! including me. We are expecting between 7 to 10 students for this semester. Our classes are in the morning from Tuesday to Thursday. This is our sixth year and God continues to bless!

Tracts and Visitors

Last month, during the Christmas vacation, we printed 10,000 tracts and we went to downtown Puebla to give them out. It was so exciting to see our church people, with a heart for souls, give this tracts and share the Gospel with people.

Today we had a total of 10 first time visitors in our church. One of them is a lady named Angeles. She came to church as a result of a Bible class that I give every Thursday in a house of one of our church members. She seem to enjoy Sunday School and Church and she said that she made the decision to keep on coming every Sunday! Praise the Lord!

Please pray for Pilar Ortiz. She is a lady that I led to the Lord few days ago. She lost all mobility of arms and legs back in September. She contracted a disease that affects her nervous system. She is very sad that she can not move, but now, very happy that she is going to Heaven!

In Christ,

Arturo Munoz and Family.

Prayer Requests:

  • For our Bible Institute
  • For a piece of land for our church twice as big
  • For us to start a new mission church this year
  • For our upcoming trip to Texas in September to renew our van’s permit.

Vacation Bible Schools

We had a great week holding 3 Vacation Bible Schools at the same time. Our highest day was on Friday with 95, 70 and 60 on each of of them, making a total of 225 kids and adults attending. Our goal for the following year is to have 5 different Bible Schools in 5 different locations of our city. We praise the Lord for the many, many kids that heard the Gospel over and over throughout the week and that God saved!! Two days before Sunday, I asked our neighbor if we could use the empty lot that is next to our church, so that we could accommodate the 80-100 kids that we were going to have for Sunday, and he, not only sad YES, but he said that if we wanted to use the lot to park the cars on Sunday, we could DO so!! Praise the Lord for this. We do not have enough room for 100 kids in our church and God surely answered our prayer!

225 attended our 3 different Vacation Bible Schools!

225 attended our 3 different Vacation Bible Schools!

200 in attendance

On Sunday we broke our previous record for attendance! We had 200 people in church; 100 kids and 100 adults. The most exciting thing about this is that we not only had the kids that attended the VBSs, but we also had their parents attending. They came to see their kids receive their diplomas for completing the VBS. We had 32 Adult VISITORS!! and 12 of them received Christ as their personal Savior!! This is so exciting as well. You could see the whole church so happy, and helping and motivated to see what God is doing in our midst!

7 Baptisms + 4

We also had 11 BAPTISMS. 7 of them got baptized in our church and 4 got baptized in our mission church. Our mission church is also doing very well. Last Sunday we had close to 100 in our mission church. That means that we actually had close to 300 last Sunday! Please pray that we can start a second mission church here in Puebla ans see more people saved.

Prayer Request

  1. For our safety this Friday and Saturday. We are traveling to Texas to renew our van’s permit. We will be visiting some churches while we are there. (August 10th to August 30th) Pray that more churches will take us on.
  2. For a bigger place for our church. We would like to sell the building that we have and find a property that is at least twice as big.
  3. For our Bible Institute. We start the second week of September and we are praying for 10 students or more.
  4. For our young people that are going away to a Bible Institute. We have 5 young people and 1 matrimony going to San Luis Potosi to study there in the Bible Institute. 4 of them are from our church and 2 are from our mission church. Our mission church is in a very poor area, and subsequently, one man, who is very poor, is leaving this Friday to go to the Bible institute. He is taking his wive and three children by faith to the Institute that is about 5 hours away. If you would like to make a one time offering for this precious family, we will be very thankful. Or if you would like to support them with $50 or $100 dollars a month while he is in the Institute, that, I am sure, will be a big investment in the work of the Lord. His name is Abel. I will try to post a picture of their family so you get to know them. Thank you!

We had a good day yesterday. People showed up early for Sunday School. We had six first time visitors and three people got baptized!

Sunday School Class in Puebla, Mexico

Sunday School Class

One of the first time visitors is the daughter of a faithful family that have been coming to our church for the last two years — Juventino and his wife. Her name is Rosio del Carmen. She brought her two children, ages 10 and 7. Brother Juventino and his wife were thrilled to see their daughter in church because they have been praying for her to come since they arrived to our church and got saved. Their daughter came back again to our church for the Sunday night service. Please pray for her, that she will continue to come and grow in Christ.

We also had a Kid’s Soulwinning Rally. This activity consists in taking the kids of our church to the local market and each one of them gives out 50 to 100 tracts. After this we take them to a park and have an hour of games and a time to eat something delicious like hotdogs. 🙂

Please help us to pray for a bigger place for us to meet. The building that we have right now is small for our church and we need a bigger place. I just placed two phone calls to ask about two building near our church. One of them has 8,000 sq. ft of land with 5,300 sq. ft of what used to be a warehouse for 12 million pesos — about 1 million dollars!!! This building is three blocks from our church on the same street. I forgot how expensive Puebla is! Specially the area were we are. This only tells me that if we are to get a bigger place for our church, then it will be God who will provide, and only God can do a miracle for us.

2013 Leadership Conference in Puebla, MEX.

This last week we had our annual revival conference in our church in Mexico. We had an amazing time with 470 people attending the conference, and 27 surrendered their life for full time service! We also had 30 different pastors and missionaries that came from seven different states to attend the conference.

Instituto Bautista FE

After 4 years of hard work and much learning, three of our students graduated from our Bible Institute. Brother Alfredo Perez and his wife started attending our Institute since we started four years ago. And Brother Angel Amado started a year ago. He is already Pastoring a church near Puebla. He transferred his credits from a Bible Institute from California. This makes a total of five that have graduated from our Institute. One of them, Bro. Alejandro, is on deputation right now in the States.

Next school year we are moving our Institute to the morning hours. The plan is to have school three times a week, from Tuesday to Thursday, with more hours. (From 8:00 am to 12:00 pm). Please pray for this project as we try to train more people for the Lord here in Mexico.

During our Sunday morning service we had bro. Miguel Flores, who is a missionary in San José de los Cabos in Baja California Sur, here in Mexico. He has already started two churches in the last ten years and now he is on his way to start mission work number three. He was a blessing. He is a man of faith.

Seven Baptisms!

Also, this Sunday morning I had the privilege to baptize seven people. Some of them you know already, like Pablo and his family. I mentioned before that Pablo’s wife searched for help in the Yellow Pages looking for a Christian church. She called our church back in January. And to make the story short, she got saved, her husband a month later and their two daughters. Also the mother-in-law (Pablo’s mom) got saved. So, today, Pablo, his wife, his daughter and his mom got baptized.

Another couple that started to come to church found us because of our sign outside our church. He, Juventino, got saved about a year ago. (He was led to the Lord by a Pastor in another town, and told him to look for a good Christian church) He gave his wife a Bible, and she started reading her Bible a year ago. Soon, she took down the images from the walls of her house. Six months ago, she asked when they were going to go to church. Finally, one day, about a month ago, she told him that she was going to go to church, with him, or without him. She had seen our church and wanted to come to visit us. So… they finally came, and are very, very excited about serving the Lord.

Below is a video of the baptisms. Thank you for your prayers and support.

Yesterday Puebla celebrated their 150th anniversary of The Battle of Puebla, which happened on May 5th 1862. Every year we have been present at the parade, but not to watch the parade, but to give out tracts. This time we made our own tract, explaining a little bit about the Battle of Puebla, talking about the freedom that we have, and then explaining the real freedom from sin that Jesus can give them. It was a total success! We saw very little tracts in the floor. All of them were taken and many people were reading them right there! Many asked for more. I heard a mom saying to her daughter: This is great for your homework! We printed 20,000 of these tracts. If you want the original files I can send them to you and you can give them out next year in your own town if you happen to have a parade of some kind for the 5 de Mayo.

Brother Jason Knabb and his family

This last Tuesday and Wednesday we had the Knabb’s staying at out house. Brother Knabb and his wife are serving the Lord in the south part of the state of Veracruz, in Jaltipan. They brought with them Brother Manuel and his wife and three kids. Brother Knabb and his wife Sarah (Sloan) have six kids! So, we had a total of 18 kids and 6 adults in our house… clearly outnumbered! Sarah was in Bible college at the same time I was, and I had not the privilege to know her husband that much, but few hours with them were enough to get to know them better and enjoy their company even more. Brother Manuel is a faithful servant that decided to homeschool their three kids — they also attended the Homeschooling Conference that I had a part of last week in Queretaro, where Brother Steve Miller serves.

Last Thursday my wife and I went to visit a dear family that has been coming to church for the last two months. Pablo and his wife came first. Then, last week Pablo invited his brother, sister-in-law, a nice, his mom and his dad. Marco Antonio, his brother, had to leave early because he had to go to work on Sunday. Also Marco Antonio’s wife left to take him to work. So, we went to visit them last Thursday. The whole family was there. We had a Bible study about Cornelius. At the end I asked everyone there if they were saved. Marco Antonio said, “I am definitely like Cornelius. I am not saved yet.” So, I took another 20-30 minutes, and I explained him clearly that God loves him, and that Jesus died on the Cross for him. At the end we prayed, and he, with his own words asked God to save him. It was a wonderful feeling to see how God worked in his life. We left their house at 11 PM.

Marco Antonio asking Jesus to save him

Marco Antonio asking Jesus to save him

Today, they all came back again to church. Marco Antonio’s wife was not at the house last Thursday, but she came today and she got saved!

Today we had many people visiting for the second time, two first time visitors and three people getting saved! We also had three baptisms.

Youth Conference in Cuernavaca, MOR

Tomorrow we are taking 25 young people from our church to a Youth Conference in Cuernavaca, MOR. (about 2 hours south of Puebla). There are five more going from our Mission church. Pray that God will keep them safe and that many of them will make great decisions for God.

Our Mission Work

Bro. Erik, who is in charge of our mission church came to me last week and said, “Pastor, we received $2,000 pesos in February, and $2,500 pesos in March for missions in the mission church. Is it OK to take another missionary for $500 pesos a month (about $40 dlls).” I said, praise the Lord! Take one more! Our mission church currently supports two missionaries and they will be taking one more missionary in less than six months. We are praying that God will give them an average attendance of 50 this month. This month also marks their 6th month since the mission work was open.

Our Church Building

As you might know, we don’t fit in our current auditorium. We are praying that God will show us what to do. We have two options: Expand our auditorium, or sell and buy a bigger property. We had already two arquitects coming to see what we can do to expand our auditorium. And we are also looking for another property that we could move into, without making big modifications to the building. Please pray that God will show us the way to know what to do. I would like to find a place that is perfect for the church to grow into. We have some extra money that we are saving for the expansion for the church, but we could also use it to buy a bigger property.

Our Kids

Pray for our kids. Hannah has a little flu, and I am awake with David right now (12:39 am)because he has an ear-ache. My wife, Nicole, said that she used to have the same thing when she was a little girl.

Thank you very much for all your prayers. And thanks to those churches that support our ministry.

Ex Hacienda De Chautla, Puebla

Youth Activity Camping 2010

God has blessed us with a wonderful youth group. We have about 35 young men and women that attend our Sunday School class every Sunday. Alejandro Ruiz, who is the youth pastor is doing a tremendous job.  Last Friday some of the men went camping to a place named “Ex Hacienda de Chautla”, which is about 45 minutes from Puebla. There is a nice lake, with lots of fish, and some cabins and a place for camping.  They had a great time there. They did some fishing, cooked some fish, and also barbecue some hamburgers. As good baptists they had to have some good meals, right? Saturday morning they got up early to have some personal devotions and some preaching. After that they play soccer almost all day. Also, I took the young girls to the campground early Saturday, and they had more activities together, while I went back to Puebla in time for our soulwinning activity with the church.

I went soulwinning with a young men of our church named Oscar. I asked Oscar how he was doing in school. How far till he finished high school and so on. He said that this is his last year. And he gave me some great news that he would like to be a Pastor and would like to start a church here in Mexico! He is planning to go to the States to attend Bible college. He doesn’t know where to go yet, but I was able to recommend some places he could go. Please pray for him as he finishes high school and get prepared to go to Bible college in the States.

Oscar’s family is an amazing family. His older brother came to Puebla about ten years ago, from a little town in the mountains of the state of Guerrero (about 5 hours from here). Oscar has six more brothers and one sister. They are a total of eight plus the mom and dad. After the older brother came to Puebla, the next in line also decided to come to Puebla to go to school here. Now the dad and the mom needed to make a decision. Either stay in Tlapa, where they lived all of their lives, or come to Puebla with the rest of the children, and give them a good education and make sure they also attended a good church. Well, they decided to move to Puebla, rented a little house, and now they are attending our church. This is very uncommon, to see a whole family move to a different town for their children’s sake.

Sunday we had a great day. We had four first time visitors. One of them got saved during the invitation. Also, Sunday night we had the Lord’s Supper and my daughter Rachel took it for the first time, and she was very excited about this. (She got baptized two months ago).

Our church is getting ready for our Missions Conference coming up in two more weeks. We are having Bro. Bob Ross from Windsor Hills Baptist Church come to preach during this time. We are also planning to give 50,000 tracks during the Day of the Dead here in Puebla. And next week we are having a 24 hr Prayer Chain for one whole week. We can see that God will do wonderful things during this time!

After the Missions Conference we are taking a little break in California. Once a year we visit our in-laws during Thanks Giving and we are also ready for this. If you are in California and would like us to present our ministry in your church, please let me know. We would love to visit your church and tell you what God is doing in our dear country of Mexico.

We are back from our quick trip to the United States. We needed to go to renew the permit of our van for another 6 months. This time, is under Nicole’s name; this way, after we get her FM3, we don’t have to go back to the border. Instead, we can extend the permit for the van in Puebla, as long as Nicole has a valid FM3 visa.

Also, during this trip, I was able to preach the last Sunday of the year 2009 in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Which is a border town… with lots of crime and violence.  And the first Sunday of the year 2010 the Lord gave me the opportunity to preach at Beautiful Gate Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas, where Pastor Joe Carrizales is the Pastor. During the week we were able to see Nicole’s mom and dad and sister who flew from San Diego, CA to see are family. It was a lot of fun! Walking in the River Walk and spending some time together.

Nicole was not able to walk much or do lots of shopping because she… is, ready? Expecting baby #7. She had been in bed rest, and her doctor recommended that she needed to travel laying down and not to do a lot of walking. Praise the Lord she was fine for the trip and she was able to see her family.  Please pray for her health. She is due July 15th. Right now she is still in bed rest, but not a rigorous bed rest. We are very excited for this new baby coming to our family. The kids are also excited and we already have some names for he or she. Now the question here is… What name do you like for a baby? Maybe you can leave us some comments and tell us what names you like for a baby.

And lastly, on January 4th, during our stay in Donna, TX with Bro. Shue, we met Bro. Tim Aguiar, missionary to Puebla, Mexico. And, praise the Lord, after a long wait to see missionaries in Puebla, we were able to “help” Bro. Aguiar to cross the border and travel with him and his family all the way to Puebla. Puebla, believe it or not, is the 3rd largest city in the country of Mexico with only 1 missionary family (us) and 2 Independent Fundamental Baptist Churches. The largest city in Mexico is Mexico City with maybe 10 or 12 IFB churches. Then we have Guadalajara with maybe 8 or 10 IFB churches. The 4th largest city in Mexico is Monterrey with over 100 IFB churches (no body really nows the exact number, if you do, please let me know).  So pray for us and for our city. We need more missionaries in Puebla, Mexico. Pray for the Aguiar family as they learn Spanish in Puebla. And pray for our church, so the we can keep reaching this forgotten city with the Gospel.  This year alone, we would like to pass out 70,000 tracks in our own city.

Ah… I almost forgot. We had a good Sunday yesterday. It was a cold day (Not as cold as in the States) maybe 60 F. And we had 3 young people getting baptized. Tomorrow we are driving to San Luis Potosi, were Bro. Luis Ramos is the Pastor, to take 5 of our young people to Bible College. Plus 2 more are leaving in one more week to go to another Bible College in Tijuana, Baja California where Bro. David Cortes is the Pastor. And we also have 1 young lady in Elgin, IL in Bible College where Bro. Elmer Fernandez is the Pastor. Please pray for this 8 young people so that they can finish the race on Bible Institute and that they can serve the Lord in an exceptional way.

God bless you and thank you for your prayers.

Don’t forget to add your email to our list on the top right, and also, give us some ideas for a name. (see above).
